Since its Broadway debut in February 2018, Disney’s Frozen has remained one of the most popular family musicals. The production has now announced a major cast change for its two leading roles—Elsa and Anna.
Original Broadway stars Caissie Levy and Patti Murin depart the show
On February 16, 2020, Broadway’s Frozen bid farewell to its original stars—Caissie Levy (Elsa) and Patti Murin (Anna). The two actresses, who had previously performed together in Wicked, perfectly captured the sisterly bond between Elsa and Anna, moving audiences with their heartfelt performances.
Though fans were sad to see them go, Levy and Murin were set to reunite at Carnegie Hall in April for The New York Pops 37th Birthday Gala, a special concert honoring the show’s songwriting duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. The event was expected to feature the beloved hit “Let It Go,” which sold over 10 million copies worldwide, as well as “Into the Unknown” from Frozen II.
Meanwhile, Levy was confirmed to appear in the new musical Caroline, or Change, which began previews the following month—another exciting chapter in her Broadway career.
New cast debuts February 18, 2020
Just three months after the global release of Frozen II, the Broadway production welcomed its new leading cast. Starting February 18, 2020, Ciara Renée (known for Big Fish and Pippin) stepped into the role of Elsa, while McKenzie Kurtz made her Broadway debut as Anna. Ryan McCartan took over as Prince Hans, and Ryann Redmond returned as Olaf, bringing new energy and excitement to the stage.
