Shortly after, Audrey the writer and Henri de Toulouse Lautrec the painter, both connected to the Moulin Rouge cabaret, appear and ask Christian to help write music for their show.
Christian soon begins working at the Moulin Rouge, where he falls deeply in love with Satine, the star performer. Their worlds are entirely different, and the love between them leads to an unexpected and emotional climax.
Screenwriter behind “Gladiator” and “The Last Samurai” joins the creative team
The creative team behind the stage musical of “Moulin Rouge” is packed with award winning talent. Playwright John Logan, who writes the book, is a celebrated Hollywood screenwriter with two Academy Award nominations. His notable works include “Gladiator,” “The Last Samurai,” and “Sweeney Todd.”Directing the production is Alex Timbers, an accomplished director nominated for both the 2011 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical and the 2012 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play. He also directs the Broadway production of “Beetlejuice,” scheduled to open in October 2018.
The stage and costume design are led by Catherine Zuber, one of Broadway’s most legendary designers and the winner of numerous awards including the Academy Award for Best Costume Design and multiple Tony Awards. She has been nominated five times (53rd, 57th, 65th, 65th, 71st) and has won seven Tony Awards (58th, 59th, 60th, 61st, 64th, 69th, 72nd).
