The hit Broadway musical “Waitress,” which began performances at the Lena Horne Theatre on March 25, 2016, has announced that Sara Bareilles—the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who wrote all the music and lyrics for the show—will return to the stage. Here’s the latest update for Broadway fans.

Based on the 2007 film of the same name, “Waitress” made Broadway history as the first musical created entirely by an all-female creative team—writer, director, and choreographer included. Sara Bareilles, who composed and wrote every song, will return to play Jenna for her second run in the leading role.Joining her is Gavin Creel, the Tony Award-winning actor from the 2017 revival of “Hello, Dolly!,” who will star as Dr. Pomatter. The pairing of Sara Bareilles and Gavin Creel will take the stage together for a special limited run from January 7 through February 3, 2019.

Born December 7, 1979Sara Bareilles is an American singer-songwriter who rose to fame with her 2007 hit single “Love Song,” which topped the Billboard Pop 100 chart. She has been nominated for five Grammy Awards and earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Original Score for “Waitress.”
She made her Broadway debut in the same show, playing Jenna from March 31 to June 11, 2017. In 2018, she also co-hosted the Tony Awards, cementing her reputation as one of the most versatile and respected talents in entertainment.
Gavin Creel as Dr. Pomatter
Born April 18, 1976 – American actorA graduate of the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance, Gavin Creel made his Broadway debut in 2002 as the lead in “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” earning his first Tony nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.
He received another nomination in 2009 for “Hair,” and went on to win the 2017 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance in “Hello, Dolly!”—proving himself as one of Broadway’s most accomplished performers.
