Highlights of Annie – Must-See Moments
First premiering on Broadway at the Alvin Theatre on April 21, 1977, “Annie” won seven Tony Awards that year, including Best musical, and has since become a timeless classic. From 1978 to 1980, a young Sarah Jessica Parker starred in the title role, with the original production running an impressive 2,377 performances. Today, “Annie” remains a global favorite, performed by local casts around the world. The show was revived on Broadway in 1997 for its 20th anniversary, though casting controversies cut the run short. This latest revival, however, introduces a fresh new star: Lilla Crawford, who earned the coveted role of Annie through a highly competitive audition process. Already known for her role as Debbie in the acclaimed musical “Billy Elliot,” Crawford’s performance has quickly captured attention.
Set in New York at Christmastime, “Annie” tells a heartwarming story of love and hope. Different in tone and scale from international productions, this Broadway revival offers a unique and moving experience that theatergoers will never forget. It is one of the most highly recommended musicals in New York this season.

Annie – Story
The Plot / Summary of Annie
Determined not to wait any longer, Annie decides to run away and search for her parents herself. Escaping from the strict orphanage matron Miss Hannigan, she meets a stray dog named Sandy and explores the city, only to be caught by the police and sent back to the orphanage. Her fate changes when Grace Farrell, secretary to wealthy businessman Oliver Warbucks, visits the orphanage looking for a child to spend Christmas with and chooses Annie.
Charmed by Annie’s optimism and courage, Warbucks soon wants to adopt her. But Annie insists that her real parents are still alive, holding onto nothing but half of a broken locket as proof. Touched by her determination, Warbucks offers a $50,000 reward to anyone who can prove they are Annie’s parents. Soon, swindlers and impostors come forward, including Miss Hannigan and her scheming brother Rooster, who hatch a plan to claim the reward for themselves…
