The Great Gatsby – Story
The Plot / Summary of The Great Gatsby
The story’s narrator, Nick Carraway, is widely seen as a reflection of author F. Scott Fitzgerald himself. Told from Nick’s perspective, the narrative revolves around two poles in his life: his college friend Tom Buchanan and Tom’s wife Daisy, and the mysterious figure of Jay Gatsby.
Nick, a solitary young man from the Midwest, moves after the war to Long Island, just outside New York City. He moves in next door to Gatsby, a man famous for his extravagant parties held every night. Almost nothing is known about Gatsby’s past, which makes him even more mysterious.
Nick wins Gatsby’s trust, and the mask finally falls. For five years Gatsby has lived only for Daisy, the wife of Tom Buchanan, watching her light across the bay. The extravagant parties, the endless music, the shimmering nights – all of it was for her alone.
The story flashes back to five years earlier: Daisy was the daughter of a wealthy family, while Gatsby returned from the war penniless. Daisy married the wealthy Tom, leaving Gatsby determined to win her back.
Through Nick, Gatsby reconnects with Daisy. Now successful during the prosperity of the Jazz Age, Gatsby tries to reclaim her love. Disillusioned with her marriage, Daisy falls for Gatsby once more, and their romance is rekindled.
After a heated confrontation at the Plaza Hotel, Daisy drives home recklessly and strikes a woman with her car on the Queensboro Bridge. When Nick tells Tom he had been driving instead, Tom, bitter over Daisy’s affair, points the victim’s husband toward Gatsby. Believing Gatsby responsible, the man goes to Gatsby’s mansion, where tragedy awaits…

The actor who played Gatsby was so cool. He's really handsome...
The actress who played Daisy was also beautiful, and all the other cast members were so handsome it was a feast for the eyes lol. Of course, the story was great too!
Being a big fan of the novel "The Great Gatsby," my daughter and I decided to go see it while we were in New York. Of course, I don't speak English, but I know the story, so I was able to enjoy it from start to finish. While the original is a classic, the musical really captured the essence of The Great Gatsby. It was a wonderful musical that fans of the novel will not be disappointed with.
My wife and I went to see the play. There weren't many places that spoke Japanese, so I was glad to find Atto New York. The service was quick, polite, and very satisfying.
What I personally liked the most was that it followed the storyline of the film and book, so I was able to watch the play without any sense of incongruity. I also thought that the sets and costumes, which matched the era of the story, were worth seeing!
I did a lot of research to find a musical to see on Broadway and came across this site. I was able to enjoy the best performance in the best seats and I'm very satisfied!
I bought The Great Gatsby without really knowing the original story, as it looked interesting, and the songs were amazing, the costumes were beautiful, and it's now a fond memory! Thank you!
