The Book of Mormon – About the Show
Highlights of The Book of Mormon – Must-See Moments
Hilarious take on Mormon life
The theme of this show is the “Mormon faith,” which may be unfamiliar to many. With its strict and quirky rules, the religion becomes the backdrop for this American comedy as Elder Price throws himself wholeheartedly into preaching the faith, with laugh-out-loud results.
Tony Award-winning songs that shine
As a celebrated Broadway musical, it is packed with catchy songs and dynamic dance numbers. Its unforgettable score, crafted by the acclaimed team behind Frozen, lingers long after the curtain falls. With powerful vocals and show-stopping performances, audiences cannot help but cheer.
A comedy classic that stands the test of time
Since its 2011 debut, The Book of Mormon has sustained a successful run on Broadway. Few comedies maintain this level of box office success for so long, and seeing it live makes it clear why it has become such a beloved favorite.
A quick guide: What is Mormonism?
Mormonism, or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), was founded in 1830 in the United States by Joseph Smith Jr. Today, most of the church’s members are concentrated in Utah. Followers adhere to a rigorous code of conduct that includes abstaining from coffee, tea, and alcohol, tithing ten percent of their income, and historically, even practicing polygamy. These practices make the church distinct from traditional mainstream forms of Christianity.
The success of The Book of Mormon lies in its ability to transform strict doctrines and the zeal of its missionaries into bold satire. Filled with humor and clever writing, it delivers a comedic experience unlike any other. For big laughs and a taste of American satire, this show is not to be missed.

The Book of Mormon – Story
The Plot / Summary of The Book of Mormon
The story begins at a missionary training center in Salt Lake City, where newly appointed elders are assigned to serve around the world.
Ambitious and confident Elder Price is unexpectedly paired with shy, socially awkward Elder Cunningham. While Price dreams of being sent to Orlando, home of Disney World, the two are instead assigned to Uganda. Cunningham’s childlike nature is evident from the start, as his mother still fusses over him at the airport. Their uncertain journey begins with little hope for success.
Upon arriving in Uganda, they are immediately robbed by armed soldiers. Just as things seem grim, the villagers welcome them with the song and dance “Hasa Diga Eebowai.” Price is later shocked to learn from a local guide that the phrase actually translates to “F*** you, God.”
The villagers face struggle with famine, AIDS, and civil war, leaving little room for religious optimism. Despite this, the well-meaning but naive missionaries persist, relying on their faith and scripture. Through cultural clashes and misunderstandings, Price and Cunningham gradually impact the community and discover that the experience changes them just as deeply.

I personally thought that the combination of songs and jokes made for a well-balanced and entertaining production. Even if you don't understand much English, you can somehow get the jokes and the humor from the atmosphere. So, I think anyone can enjoy it. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an entertaining musical!
This was the first musical that I saw five years ago. I ended up sitting in the very back row, but even though I don't understand a word of English, there were moments when I got the jokes and burst out laughing. The music was amazing! I definitely want to see this production again.
The jokes about Mormonism and the dark humor were so fast I couldn't keep up... Everyone was laughing the whole time. I got caught up in the situation and ended up laughing too. The audience was older, and I didn't see any children. If you want to see some typical American comedy jokes, this is the place for you.
A friend recommended this play to me, so I went to see it. I had a great seat with a great view of the stage! I knew what the play was about beforehand, so I was able to laugh at even the edgy black jokes. I'm glad I saw it!
