Catherine of Aragon
The first wife of Henry VIII. Previously married to Henry’s brother Arthur, she wed Henry after Arthur’s death. Multiple miscarriages and the absence of a surviving son eventually led to their divorce.
Anne Boleyn
The second wife. She gave birth to a daughter, but failed to produce a male heir. Accused of treason, she was executed.
Jane Seymour
The third wife. Their relationship began as an affair, and she was engaged to Henry the day after Anne’s execution. She gave birth to the long-awaited son but died shortly afterward due to illness.
Anne of Cleves
The fourth wife. Henry married her as part of a political alliance, but the marriage was later annulled after he claimed she looked different from her portrait.
Catherine Howard
The fifth wife. She married Henry at age 19, when he was 49. Accused of meeting a former lover, she was executed.
Catherine Parr
The sixth and final wife. The only one who was neither divorced nor executed, she cared for Henry in his final years.

Lena Horne Theatre – Home of SIX: The Musical
The Lena Horne Theatre was originally built by the renowned Broadway developers the Chanin brothers and opened in 1926 under the name Mansfield Theatre. After a period of decline following the Great Depression, the venue was revived in 1960 and renamed the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, in honor of the influential New York Times theater critic.In 2022, the theatre was renamed the Lena Horne Theatre to honor the legendary performer, singer, and civil rights activist Lena Horne, making it the first Broadway theatre named after a Black woman.

It was a powerful musical. I felt like I got a lot of energy from it. The performance was shorter than other musicals, but it was so powerful that I didn't even notice the short time! The cast members' singing voices were so beautiful that they still ring in my ears.

Is this really a story set in the time of Henry VIII?! It was so cool with all the rock and shouting. It felt more like a performance show than a musical. The audience was really excited!

A friend who lives in London recommended it to me, so I went to see it! It was incredibly entertaining. The powerful yet historical aspects somehow fit perfectly, and it felt like a marathon, with me not being able to take my eyes off it. It seemed to be all about feminism, so I got the impression that the audience was mostly women. As far as I could see, there were no Japanese people there, which makes me happy to think that it will become a hit, but also gives me mixed feelings...lol I definitely recommend it to musical fans!

Who was Henry VIII?
Henry VIII (reigned April 22, 1509 – January 28, 1547) was the second monarch of the Tudor dynasty. Known for his striking appearance, fluent command of several languages, and athletic ability, he was initially seen as a charismatic and cultured ruler.
At the same time, he is remembered as one of England’s most notorious kings. He ordered the executions of wives and advisors who fell out of favor and famously broke away from the Catholic Church to secure a divorce, seizing church lands and wealth in the process.
By using this wealth to resolve financial problems, Henry ruled with a clear “might makes right” attitude. Infamous for his many marriages, he remains a larger-than-life historical figure, remembered as both a tyrant and a powerful symbol of absolute authority.
The phrase: Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived
The opening number “Ex-Wives” introduces the well-known phrase “Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived,” which neatly summarizes the fates of Henry VIII’s six wives, whose marriages ended through divorce, execution, or death.
On stage, the six ex-wives form a pop-style girl group, singing and dancing as they debate who was the greatest queen while sharing their personal experiences with Henry.
The deeper message of the show is clear: Henry VIII is remembered largely because of these six women. Rather than competing over a man, the queens reclaim their own stories and celebrate their voices together, giving the musical a strong feminist perspective.
From student project to Broadway in just three years
SIX began as a student project at Cambridge University in the UK. It premiered at a local music festival, where it quickly attracted attention as “the next big hit.” A UK tour was soon arranged, followed by a four-month limited run in London’s West End.
Buoyed by rave reviews, the West End run was extended until January 2021, and Broadway producers soon brought the show to New York. In just about three years, SIX evolved from a student creation into a full-scale Broadway musical, becoming one of the fastest success stories in modern musical theatre.
