Avenue Q – About the Show
Highlights of Avenue Q – Must-See Moments
A Must-See Musical for Adults Living in Today’s World
Avenue Q premiered Off-Broadway in March 2003 and, after just five months, transferred to Broadway. In 2004 it went on to win three Tony Awards, including Best musical, Best book of a musical, and Best Original Score, beating the blockbuster Wicked. This witty and daring production has become a favorite among theatergoers looking for something truly original.Blending puppetry with live performance, Avenue Q introduced a fresh new style of musical theater that quickly won audiences over. The show deals with real-life themes such as love, unemployment, racism, and sexuality, making it both provocative and relevant. (Please note: due to mature content, it may not be suitable for children under 18.)
While the subjects are serious, the humor of the puppets and the clever staging turn it into a laugh-out-loud comedy. The performers remain visible on stage as they operate the puppets, adding an extra layer of expression and making it clear that this is not just a puppet show but a sophisticated piece of adult entertainment. Avenue Q also drew attention for featuring some of the same creative talent behind Sesame Street’s puppets.
From Off-Broadway to Broadway and Beyond
Avenue Q began Off-Broadway in 2003 and transferred to Broadway in 2004, where it won the Tony Award for Best musical, triumphing over the much-anticipated Wicked. The production went on to play about 2,534 performances, placing it among the top 25 longest-running shows on Broadway with over 1,000 performances. The Broadway run ended in 2009, but Avenue Q found new life Off-Broadway at New World Stages (Stage 3), where it continued to entertain audiences for many more years.

Avenue Q – Audience Reviews
Review from Chuzain:
With My Family
I decided to see the show with my family before it closed. I’m based in Ohio, but for families visiting New York this is a fun choice. The Bubble Show is still my top recommendation, but Avenue Q was very enjoyable too. Keep in mind it requires some English ability to fully appreciate. My youngest, only three years old, got restless and we had to step out midway.

Review from Lucky★:
First Time in 9 Years
I first saw Avenue Q in New York back in 2009, and returned nine years later to watch it again. This time it was playing Off-Broadway, but the humor and energy were just as great as I remembered. Packed with jokes and laugh-out-loud moments. I hope it continues to run Off-Broadway for years to come.

Review from Avenue Q Enthusiast:
A Must-See
Blue Man Group and Stomp are great, but Avenue Q is a hidden gem that deserves more attention. It’s funny, unexpectedly edgy, and much more than just cute puppets. Don’t miss it.
