Highlights of A Christmas Carol – Must-See Moments
A Limited-Run Broadway Production for the Holiday Season
The timeless classic A Christmas Carol by British author Charles Dickens, one of the most celebrated novels in the world, was brought to Broadway as a special limited-run holiday production. The story’s universal message of redemption and generosity makes it a seasonal favorite for audiences from around the globe.
A Stage Filled with Beloved Christmas Songs
The story of A Christmas Carol centers on the importance of compassion and kindness, leaving audiences with a heartwarming sense of joy long after the curtain falls. Because it is set during Christmas, the production features many familiar carols such as “Joy to the World,” “Silent Night,” and “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.” These songs transcend language barriers, making the show accessible and enjoyable for all ages, whether you attend with family, friends, or as a couple.
Hollywood Actor Campbell Scott Stars as Scrooge
Campbell Scott, widely known for playing Richard Parker (Peter Parker’s father) in The Amazing Spider-Man, takes the stage as the iconic Ebenezer Scrooge. While he has often portrayed warm and gentle characters on screen, here audiences can look forward to seeing how he transforms into the famously stubborn miser. The production also features Tony Award-winning actress LaChanze as the Ghost of Christmas Present and Andrea Martin as the Ghost of Christmas Past, adding even more star power to this celebrated holiday production.

A Christmas Carol – Story
The Plot / Summary of A Christmas Carol
On one Christmas Eve, his warmhearted nephew Fred invites him to Christmas dinner, but Scrooge refuses without hesitation. He shows no interest in the festive atmosphere that fills the city with holiday spirit. Instead, he closes his office and returns home, just as he always does.
That night, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley, who had died seven years earlier. Marley warns him of the miserable fate that awaits those consumed by greed and selfishness, using his own cursed existence as proof. He tells Scrooge that three spirits will soon visit him to show him the error of his ways.
One by one, the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come appear before Scrooge, revealing scenes that stir his conscience. But it is the haunting vision of the future that shakes him the most, forcing Scrooge to confront an unexpected and terrifying truth about his own destiny.

Behind the Scenes of A Christmas Carol
Created by the Teams Behind Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings
The stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol brought together an extraordinary creative team, making it hard to believe this was a limited-run production. The script was written by Jack Thorne, known for penning the acclaimed play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The music was composed by Christopher Nightingale, who also served as the music director for the film trilogy The Lord of the Rings.
With these two names alone, it feels like a crossover of “Harry Potter” and “The Lord of the Rings.” Both are creators who achieved massive success in the fantasy genre, and audiences were eager to see how their talents would shape this new telling of Dickens’ holiday classic.
Adding to the production’s prestige, the set and costume design were handled by Rob Howell, who won the Tony Award for Best scenic design of a musical in 2013 for Matilda, as well as two Tony Awards in 2019 for his work on The Ferryman (Best scenic design of a play and Best costume design of a play).
It is rare to experience such a star-studded creative team working together on a story so beloved worldwide. And since this Broadway engagement ran for only eight weeks, it truly was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity not to be missed.
