The Fantasticks – Story
The Plot / Summary of The Fantasticks
The truth is that the two fathers are actually close friends. Wanting their children to marry, they pretended to be feuding, knowing that young people naturally rebel against their parents’ wishes. By opposing the relationship, the fathers only encouraged the romance to grow stronger.
For the final step of their plan, the fathers stage a mock abduction of Luisa, arranging for Matt to heroically rescue her. This, they believe, will lead to a natural reconciliation and allow them to give their blessing to the young couple’s marriage. But things do not go quite as smoothly as planned…

To Nejimaki-dori
I once saw a production where Hideo Amamoto played the role of El Gallo. It was during a performance in Fukuoka.

Hope to See It Again
I truly hope this show is revived somewhere again. Before Amon Miyamoto directed it, it was staged at a small theater in Komaba. By chance, Hideo Amamoto appeared as a guest actor, and I still remember how the entire atmosphere of the theater shifted the moment he stepped on stage. It left a powerful impression.

Review by Nejimaki-dori:
A Classic from the Past
In Japan, it is often mentioned that Amon Miyamoto staged it in 2003, but I actually saw it much earlier – probably more than 40 years ago. It must have been produced even further back than that.
