“A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” is the winner of the 2014 Tony Award for Best musical, celebrated as the new “King of Comedy” on Broadway. At the heart of this show is Jefferson Mays, a legendary Broadway actor who became widely known for “I Am My Own Wife” and “The Best Man.” In this production, Mays performs an astonishing eight roles – playing men, women, and even characters in between – showcasing incredible range and talent. His performance includes not only acting but also singing, dancing, ice skating, and even bicycle tricks.The witty book is by Robert L. Freedman, who, together with composer-lyricist Steven Lutvak, received the prestigious Fred Ebb Award. The orchestrations are conducted by Jonathan Tunick, one of the very few artists in history to achieve the EGOT, winning a Tony, Emmy, Grammy, and Academy Award.
The story follows Monty Navarro, played by Bryce Pinkham, as he discovers he is ninth in line to inherit a family fortune. What unfolds is a darkly comic tale where Jefferson Mays, as all eight D’Ysquith heirs, keeps the audience in stitches with clever humor and outrageous antics. With its blend of sharp wit, brilliant performances, and unforgettable music, this show delivers nonstop laughter and remains one of the standout Broadway productions of recent years.

The Plot / Summary of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder
The story begins in London in 1909. Monty Navarro, living in poverty, is devastated by the sudden death of his mother. Soon after, an old friend of his late mother, Miss Shingle, brings shocking news. She reveals that Monty’s mother was actually descended from the wealthy and powerful D’Ysquith family. Years earlier, Monty’s mother was disowned and cut off from the family after eloping against their wishes.
Miss Shingle goes on to explain that only eight people stand between Monty and the earldom of the D’Ysquiths. Seeing a chance to change his fate, Monty hatches a wicked plan. One by one, he sets his sights on eliminating the other heirs, determined to rise from the ninth in line to the very top. But can Monty truly outwit them all and claim the title, or will his ambition be his undoing?
