Head Over Heels – About the Show
Highlights of Head Over Heels – Must-See Moments
The Origin of the Title Head Over Heels
The title of this Broadway musical comes from the Go-Go’s hit single “Head Over Heels,” released in 1984. Although the story itself is set in 16th-century England during the Elizabethan era, the show cleverly blends this classic setting with the energetic pop-rock sound that defined the American music scene of the 1980s. For fans of the Go-Go’s, Head Over Heels is a one-of-a-kind experience that brings their beloved songs to life on stage.
Created by the Writer of Avenue Q and the Director of Hedwig and the Angry Inch
The creative team behind Head Over Heels brought together an extraordinary collaboration. Jeff Whitty, the Tony Award-winning writer who introduced audiences to a new genre of puppet musical with Avenue Q, joined forces with Michael Mayer, the acclaimed director of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a rock musical that developed a devoted fan base in cities around the world. Their combined vision resulted in a bold and innovative Broadway production.
Peppermint, the First Openly Transgender Principal Performer on Broadway
One of the lead roles in Head Over Heels was played by Peppermint, a celebrated drag queen who gained national recognition as a contestant on the hit reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race. She made Broadway history as the first openly transgender woman to star in a principal role. In the musical, Peppermint dazzled audiences with glamorous costumes and bold makeup, appearing as the oracle Pythio throughout the story.

The Go-Go’s! It felt nostalgic and exciting at the same time. For someone from my generation, it was unforgettable. Hearing hit songs like “We Got The Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed” live was such a thrill.

Review from Toshiko:
Couldn’t Stop Laughing
The English was a little challenging for me, but the show was filled with silly moments that kept me laughing throughout. My favorite character was the shepherd who falls in love with the princess. It’s a hilarious role since he spends the entire show in disguise, but I won’t spoil the reason why. The costumes and sets were so charming, and I even bought a souvenir cup that came with beer. Thank you for arranging the tickets!
