Kinky Boots – Story
The Plot / Summary of Kinky Boots
In search of a way to save the factory, Charlie travels to London, where he meets Lola, a dazzling drag queen. When he hears Lola and other performers complain that they have no boots strong enough to handle their weight yet stylish enough for the stage, Charlie has a brilliant idea. He decides to create high-quality, glamorous boots designed specifically for drag queens – a niche market no other shoemaker has tapped into.
Charlie rehires his former staff and begins developing footwear that won’t break even when worn by men who love to perform in drag. The road is rocky at first, full of setbacks, but with the creativity, design skills, and craftsmanship of his team, the factory finally succeeds in producing the iconic “Kinky Boots.” It looks like the company has escaped bankruptcy – but the story has only just begun.

The Broadway musical Kinky Boots was inspired by the true story of WJ Brooks, a long-established British shoe manufacturer founded in 1889. After working together on the Broadway hit Hairspray, the book writer and director invited Cyndi Lauper to compose the complete score for Kinky Boots.When the show made its Broadway debut in 2013, it went on to win six Tony Awards, including Best musical and Best Original Score.
