Westside Theatre – Home of Little Shop of Horrors
Westside Theatre is a historic Off-Broadway venue located in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. The building was originally constructed in 1889 as the Second German Baptist Church, and after serving different purposes over the years, including a period as a discotheque, it became a theater space in the 1970s.Today, the venue houses two intimate theaters, Westside Theatre Upstairs and Westside Theatre Downstairs, and has hosted many memorable Off-Broadway productions. Compared with large Broadway theaters, the seating capacity is much smaller, allowing audiences to feel closer to the stage. That intimate setting makes the bold staging of Little Shop of Horrors even more thrilling, with Audrey II’s larger-than-life presence feeling almost close enough to reach.
Is Westside Theatre Area Safe for Visitors?

The stage felt incredibly close, allowing the actors’ expressions and voices to reach the audience directly. It created an immersive feeling, almost as if I had stepped into the story myself. The cast size also felt just right, giving each character enough presence to leave a strong impression.
Audrey II was even more powerful than I expected as the plant grew larger throughout the show, creating a stage experience far more dynamic than you might imagine from an intimate theater. Unlike watching a production from a distance in a large venue, this felt like the chaos was happening right in front of me. It left me with the deep satisfaction of having truly experienced live theater.
It offers a kind of excitement that only Off-Broadway can deliver, very different from the experience of a large theater. With the action unfolding right in front of you, the actors’ voices reaching the audience clearly, and the theater itself feeling warm and intimate, the show leaves you with a strong sense of having truly experienced live theater.
A fun, refreshing story!
