The story is set at a small flower shop on Skid Row, a run-down neighborhood where Seymour, a shy and awkward young man, spends his days working behind the counter. He secretly has feelings for his coworker Audrey, but his life remains quiet, ordinary, and far from glamorous. Then one day, as the struggling shop faces an uncertain future, Seymour discovers a strange and unusual plant unlike anything anyone has ever seen before.

He names the plant “Audrey II” after the woman he loves. But this is no ordinary plant. It does not grow with water or fertilizer. Instead, it thrives on human blood, becoming larger and more powerful at an alarming speed. As Audrey II attracts attention, the flower shop suddenly becomes a sensation, and Seymour finds himself stepping into the spotlight for the first time.

But behind his newfound success, Audrey II’s hunger only grows stronger. As Seymour dreams of a happy future with Audrey, he becomes trapped by the terrifying price the plant demands, and escaping its appetite may be far more difficult than he ever imagined…

Westside Theatre – Home of Little Shop of Horrors

The Broadway Musical Little Shop of Horrors at Westside Theatre Westside Theatre is a historic Off-Broadway venue located in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. The building was originally constructed in 1889 as the Second German Baptist Church, and after serving different purposes over the years, including a period as a discotheque, it became a theater space in the 1970s.

Today, the venue houses two intimate theaters, Westside Theatre Upstairs and Westside Theatre Downstairs, and has hosted many memorable Off-Broadway productions. Compared with large Broadway theaters, the seating capacity is much smaller, allowing audiences to feel closer to the stage. That intimate setting makes the bold staging of Little Shop of Horrors even more thrilling, with Audrey II’s larger-than-life presence feeling almost close enough to reach.

Is Westside Theatre Area Safe for Visitors?

Westside Theatre is just a 10-minute walk from Times Square, where tourists fill the streets even late at night. However, it is a little bit dark in night around the theatre, so you should be careful to walk.

The audience feels incredibly close to the stage.

The stage felt incredibly close, allowing the actors’ expressions and voices to reach the audience directly. It created an immersive feeling, almost as if I had stepped into the story myself. The cast size also felt just right, giving each character enough presence to leave a strong impression.

Audrey II was even more powerful than I expected as the plant grew larger throughout the show, creating a stage experience far more dynamic than you might imagine from an intimate theater. Unlike watching a production from a distance in a large venue, this felt like the chaos was happening right in front of me. It left me with the deep satisfaction of having truly experienced live theater.

the unique charm of Off-Broadway

It offers a kind of excitement that only Off-Broadway can deliver, very different from the experience of a large theater. With the action unfolding right in front of you, the actors’ voices reaching the audience clearly, and the theater itself feeling warm and intimate, the show leaves you with a strong sense of having truly experienced live theater.
