Beetlejuice – Story

The Plot / Summary of Beetlejuice

The Plot / Summary of Beetlejuice
The story is set in a quiet town in Connecticut during the 1980s.

Adam Maitland and his wife Barbara live peacefully until one day, while driving out for errands, they swerve to avoid a dog and plunge into a river. Soaked, they return home, only to realize they have no memory of escaping the car. It is only when they discover the mysterious “Handbook for the Recently Deceased” lying on their table that they understand the truth – they died in the accident.

Now ghosts bound to their home, Adam and Barbara try to settle into their strange new reality. But soon, their house is sold to wealthy Charles and his family, who move in from New York. Determined to scare them away, the Maitlands attempt countless tricks, but the new owners remain oblivious to their presence.

Meanwhile, Charles’s daughter Lydia begins exploring the house and attempts to unlock the attic where Adam and Barbara hide. Panicked, the couple open their handbook and recite an incantation that pulls them into the afterlife, where they meet Juno, a caseworker for troubled spirits. Juno warns them of one rule above all: never summon the reckless troublemaker known as Beetlejuice. Unaware of the danger, Adam and Barbara dismiss the warning.

Back in their home, their haunting efforts fail again, leaving them desperate. In their frustration, they utter the forbidden spell, calling forth the chaotic spirit Beetlejuice from the netherworld. What follows is a whirlwind of dark comedy, supernatural mayhem, and outrageous mischief that turns their quiet house upside down.

Beetlejuice – Review

From Speedy Stage:

So-so…

The actor playing Beetlejuice stood out the most with an impressive performance.

From Good Choice:

Worth the ticket

The entire theater was transformed into the Beetlejuice world, which made the experience fun from the moment we entered. Just like The Lion King or Aladdin, the way the whole venue captures the theme was impressive and reminded me why Broadway is so unique. Most of the audience were international visitors. The tickets were reasonably priced, and I felt it was a great deal overall.

From Spider:

Couldn’t keep up with the American humor

The venue was decorated in Tim Burton’s signature style and the cast was wonderfully comedic, but the American jokes were difficult for me to follow. The crowd laughed loudly many times, and I couldn’t always understand the humor.

From Muramatsu:

Like stepping into Disneyland

The moment I entered the theater, it felt like stepping into Disneyland with Tim Burton’s dark, eccentric world everywhere. The music and atmosphere set the tone even before the show began, and I was glad I arrived early. The script had a few changes from the movie, but if you know the film you can easily follow the story. The energy of the fans was incredible – when Beetlejuice appeared, someone in the audience screamed with excitement. Broadway always surprises me with its dynamic staging and passionate fans. It was absolutely worth seeing.

The perfect recommendation

Watching the film beforehand definitely helped. Knowing the storyline made it even more fun to see how it was adapted for the stage. It was a whole new experience for me, and I’m glad I got this recommendation. Thank you!
