Billy Elliot – About the Show
Highlights of Billy Elliot – Must-See Moments
Billy Elliot is the story of a young boy chasing his dream to become a ballet dancer. Based on the 2000 British film of the same name (released in Japan as “Little Dancer”), the musical premiered in London in 2005. After successful runs in London and Sydney, it finally arrived on Broadway in 2008. At the 2009 Tony Awards, it won 10 categories including Best musical, and the three boys who shared the role of Billy all received the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Billy’s dance performance is nothing short of breathtaking. Audiences will feel an incredible burst of energy that sweeps away the struggles of everyday life. The music, written by the legendary Elton John, also known for his work on “Aida” and “The Lion King,” adds even more power and emotion to each scene, making every moment worth savoring.
The message of the show is clear: never give up on your dreams. It is a production that delivers joy, courage, and inspiration, leaving audiences with a sense of hope and happiness.

Billy Elliot – Story
The Plot / Summary of Billy Elliot
It is the height of the miners’ strike. While his father and Tony spend their days fighting on the picket lines, his father, a boxing enthusiast, dreams of making Billy a champion boxer and sends him to boxing classes.
One day, Billy finds himself drawn to the ballet class being held in the room next to the boxing ring. Slipping in among the girls, he decides to try ballet lessons for himself.
He quickly discovers that ballet brings him far more joy than boxing, and he becomes captivated by dancing. Yet as a boy in a working-class mining town, he struggles with the lack of understanding and prejudice from those around him.
Unable to give up his passion for ballet, Billy faces a choice: can he overcome the odds and pursue his dream?

Billy Elliot – Review
Review from chikita:
Absolutely Amazing!
A friend who had seen the movie *Billy Elliot* invited me to the show. I hadn’t watched the film myself, so all I knew was from the program and synopsis I got beforehand, and honestly I was worried I might not enjoy it.
But once it started, I was completely drawn in. More than half of the cast are kids, yet their energy and talent blew me away. Even without understanding every word, the story was easy to follow, moving at times and full of incredible singing and dancing. I left the theater 120% satisfied and already want to see it again when I come back to New York!
My seat was in the front of the mezzanine, and it turned out to be perfect, a great view and easy to follow the whole performance. Next time I’ll definitely book through At New York again!

Truly Fantastic
We saw the January 1st matinee and had amazing seats near the front on the left side. Out of the five musicals we watched over the holidays, this might have been the one that moved me the most.
The powerful singing, the humor, the clear storyline, and above all, the passion you could feel through Billy’s dancing made it unforgettable. It’s easy to see why this show gets such high praise.
Even though kids make up a big part of the cast, this isn’t really a children’s show. In fact, I’d especially recommend it to parents. The accents are strong, but the actors’ emotional delivery makes everything clear, so you can just relax and enjoy it.

A Perfect Fall Afternoon
We went to the October 6th matinee. Billy was played by 12-year-old Jacob, and watching him grow from clumsy steps to an incredible dancer with so much expression was inspiring. The choreography was excellent, mixing fun, humor, touching moments, and beautiful music.
Right now, I’d say this is the number one musical in New York. After the show, we even met the cast outside, got autographs, shook hands, and took photos, such a wonderful memory. I left wanting to see it again immediately.

Finally Saw Billy!
After seeing a performance at the Academy Awards, I knew this was the musical I had to watch. I was lucky enough to see the same actor I had spotted at the ceremony playing Billy!
My friend, who studies English literature, said the accents were tough, but honestly, even without understanding the language, I had such a good time. The staging and direction were also really well done.

Stage Door Magic
Even without strong English skills, I had a fantastic time. If you’ve seen the movie *Billy Elliot*, you’ll enjoy it even more.
After the show, I happened to be standing by the stage door and was lucky enough to meet Tommy Batchelor, the actor playing Billy that night. He signed my program and even posed for photos. Highly recommend waiting by the stage door, you might just get the same chance!
