BOOP! The Musical – Story
The Plot / Summary of BOOP! The Musical
With the help of Professor Grampy, her eccentric grandfather-like caretaker, Betty uses his newly invented teleporter to escape the black-and-white world and unexpectedly lands at a modern-day Comic Book Convention in New York. Overwhelmed by the colorful costumes and vibrant sights she has never seen before, Betty is flustered until a kind young man named Dwayne approaches her.
Betty quickly finds herself drawn to Dwayne, a jazz musician who knows exactly who he is and what he stands for. At the same time, she meets Dwayne’s younger sister Trisha, a high school girl who idolizes the cartoon character Betty Boop. The two instantly connect and begin calling each other best friends.
For the first time, Betty considers stepping away from being the black-and-white “Betty” shaped by the expectations of others in Toontown, and instead starting anew as “Betsy,” a colorful young woman with her own voice and choices. But her plans take an unexpected turn when Dwayne and Trisha’s father, Raymond, a politician running for office, decides to use her as the face of his election campaign…

Broadhurst Theatre

My family and I went to see the show and it was amazing! (*´∀`)
All the actresses and actors were amazing.
The dancing, acting, singing, and stage direction were all so entertaining and well worth seeing!
It was my first time seeing Broadway, and I think I liked it even better than London's West End. . .
My elementary school-aged daughters seemed to enjoy it, too, which was great (and of course my husband, who is a man, seemed satisfied too).
Thank you, Atto Broadway, for the tickets!!
Overall it's a very cute musical ♡ I absolutely love Betty Boop's worldview (lol). There was a lot of neon used in the costumes and sets, and it really gave it a sparkly feel!
I saw this play while I was in New York during spring break. It was a classic production, full of tap dancing and a "Broadway" feel. I'm glad I was able to see it when it first came out. The actors and dancers were full of energy and I enjoyed the fresh, passionate performance.
