Finding Neverland – Story
The Plot / Summary of Finding Neverland
After his new play “Little Mary” receives poor reviews at a London theatre, a disheartened Barrie visits Kensington Gardens, where he meets the young widow Sylvia Davies and her four sons. The children, still mourning the loss of their father, are especially fragile – most of all young Peter, who has even given up on dreaming.
As Barrie grows closer to the Davies family, the boys warm to him. Through playful “make-believe” with Peter, Barrie begins to imagine the tale of children who never want to grow up – the story that would later become “Peter Pan”.
Determined to bring this new work to the stage, Barrie appeals to producers, only to be dismissed since such a childlike story was thought unlikely to appeal to London audiences. Yet when the curtain finally rises, the play defies expectations and becomes a triumphant success…
