MARY POPPINS – Story
The Plot / Summary of MARY POPPINS
Set in London in 1910, the Banks family is in turmoil. The father is a strict banker who believes money is everything, while the mother is deeply involved in the women’s suffrage movement. Their two children, Jane and Michael, are left largely unattended and constantly misbehave, driving their nannies away.
One day, after the children imagine their ideal nanny and write down their wishes, the paper is torn up and burned. But the next morning, a young woman holding a large umbrella floats gently down from the sky.
From the moment Mary arrives, the children’s neglected lives are transformed. She turns cleaning the nursery into a game, jumps into sidewalk paintings for tea parties, joins the birds in dances high above the rooftops, and fills every day with wonder. Through her magical presence, not only the children but even their father are forever changed.

MARY POPPINS – Reviews
Review from Miyuki & Milad:
Very Helpful Experience
I had never seen the Mary Poppins movie before. I kept debating what show to watch and, after reading reviews on different sites, I decided on Mary Poppins and bought my tickets here. (Last year I saw Mamma Mia.) To prepare, I even bought the DVD on Amazon.
To be honest, I found the movie story rather boring, and before leaving for New York I was worried the musical might disappoint. But the Broadway performance of Mary Poppins was beyond words – absolutely incredible.
By the end I was moved to tears. Our seats were in the second row from the front! Now back home, I am deeply grateful for such a wonderful memory. If you are unsure which musical to choose, Mary Poppins has the perfect balance of humor, emotion, and surprise. Both the theater and the staging were fantastic.

Review from Mary:
Perfect for Families
We went during summer vacation and the whole family had a wonderful time. My older child is 11 and the younger one is 6 – both of them absolutely loved it. On the way back they kept singing the songs they had just heard.
My husband and I also enjoyed it far more than expected and were very satisfied. The music and stage sets were excellent.
By the way, the umbrella and bag set was 40 dollars, and the program was about 18 dollars. For reference, you can purchase just the merchandise by asking the staff at the entrance. Mary Poppins is a must see, especially for families. You will find yourself humming along too.

Review from Joker:
Question
I saw the London production and it was wonderful. The “Supercalifragilistic” dance number was breathtaking, the costumes were adorable, and the set was so inviting I could imagine living there. I also loved the romance between Mary and Bert, which is not in the film.
I do have a question: were the iconic umbrella and bag sold as merchandise in New York? I regret not buying them when I saw the London show. Is it possible to shop for merchandise at the theater without a ticket? If anyone knows, please share.

Review from Glinda:
Mary Poppins
Although I preferred the London version, the New York production was still excellent. The colorful stage sets in particular were very impressive and highly recommended.

Review from Korin:
Very Satisfying
The atmosphere in the theater was amazing. Even though I did not know the story beforehand, I thoroughly enjoyed it. (Though watching the movie in advance would make it even more enjoyable.)
While it may seem like a show for children, adults can fully appreciate it as well. The Banks family home set, with its first floor, second floor, and rooftop design, was unique and creative. The songs were beautiful too – I even bought the CD. The theater itself was gorgeous.
In true New York style, I could watch the show with a coffee in hand to fight jet lag, since most theaters have bars in the lobby. It left me feeling unexpectedly happy and uplifted. Mary Poppins deserves even more recognition as a musical. I had not expected much, but it turned out to be an excellent choice.
