NEWSIES – Story
The Plot / Summary of NEWSIES
Jack is a 17 year old boy from a poor family who tries to help support his parents by selling newspapers. Alongside his younger brother Les, he buys papers from the powerful Pulitzer company and makes a living as a newsboy, or “newsie.”
One day, both Pulitzer and Hearst, the two largest newspaper publishers in New York, decide to raise the wholesale price of their papers. Fearing that fewer people will buy newspapers and that their livelihoods will be threatened, Jack rallies the other newsies to go on strike.
United with boys who are usually his rivals, Jack leads the newsies in a bold fight against the powerful publishers. Will they succeed in stopping the price hike and make their voices heard?
