Sleep No More – Story

Sleep No MoreThe Plot / Summary of Sleep No More

The Plot / Summary of Sleep No More
Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” and Hitchcock’s “Rebecca” serve as inspiration.

Scottish general Macbeth secretly harbors an ambition to claim the throne. On his return from defeating the Norwegian army, he encounters three witches on a stormy heath. They deliver a mysterious prophecy foretelling that he will one day become King of Scotland.

When news arrives that the Scottish king will stay at Macbeth’s castle that very night, Lady Macbeth urges her hesitant husband to seize the crown by force. She pushes him relentlessly to act on his ambition.

Macbeth succeeds in murdering the king in his sleep and claims the throne. But plagued by guilt and paranoia, he continues to stain his hands with blood, spiraling further into fear and corruption…

I'd even recommend for non-English Speakers

I don't think there are many shows that are so surprising and moving even without any conversation! English is not required, so I recommend it to people who are worried about the language barrier!

Got excited for the first time in a long time

When I ask theater fans, they always say, "If you go to New York, you have to see Sleep No More," so I had been curious about it for a long time, and finally I got to go. Entering a completely unknown world, being inside a play, was the first time I'd felt that excited in a long time.

Sleep no More

There was a bit of a wait in front of the door before entering, which was cold. There is a place to leave your luggage, so it's okay to wear a thick coat! You can still enjoy it even if you see spoilers, so it might be more enjoyable if you know the concept beforehand!

Thanks for arranging the tickets

Thank you for arranging the tickets ^_^ Even though they provided so much information, I thought it would be better to go and see it without knowing anything! But when I went to see it, I couldn't understand anything at all (tears) I think it would be more enjoyable if you understood the content and situation a little better! I'd like to go again and try to watch!!

Very artistic

It was too artistic for me to understand but still enjoyed.

what an experience

The ticket prices were so high I thought they must be wrong, but when I asked a staff from At Broadway, he said they were the most expensive of the year for the Christmas period. Well, I really wanted to go, so I splurged and bought tickets, and I'm really glad I went.

I don't think there are any actors in Japan who are this into this worldview.

Or rather, it wasn't just acting; it was like I'd traveled back in time and entered that world, which was almost scary.

I just walked around a lot, but... I want to go again...!

It was good to read the musical report

I had heard it was unique, but I had no idea it was this amazing... It felt more like Sleep No More than a musical lol. As the musical report said, we walked a lot. I'm really glad I read the report.

If you're wondering what to watch

A theater-loving acquaintance recommended this show as a must-see, so I purchased tickets through this site. I was overwhelmed by the mysterious structure, which stimulated my sense of adventure, as if I were immersed in the world of the play, and I was so captivated that I couldn't stop thinking about it, even when I was awake.

The concept and the worldview are both fantastic.

I would also recommend that anyone who comes to New York should definitely go.

New York has a wide variety of entertainment options, so if you're unsure what to see, this is the place for you.

Great enough

It was fun! The best part of the show was that there are no lines, so you can enjoy it even if you don't understand English! Halfway through, I lost track of who I should be chasing, so if there's a next time, I'd like to decide on an actor to chase and try it out ^^;

Fun memory

Even after reading the blog on this site, there were many things I didn't understand, but after I went and reread it, it all made sense. I went after looking at the relationship chart, but even after I got there, I still didn't understand this at all lol It was a lot of fun, but while I was waiting outside, it was so cold that I almost died! That's a good memory though...

Sleep No More highlight The play that inspired Sleep No More is Macbeth, written around 1606 and known as the last of Shakespeare’s four great tragedies. Based on the real King Macbeth of Scotland (who reigned from 1040 to 1057), the story follows a brave yet insecure man who, urged by his wife, murders his sovereign to seize the throne. Consumed by guilt and paranoia, his reign collapses into tyranny and ends in revenge at the hands of nobles and princes.

Sleep No More also draws inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 masterpiece Vertigo. Directed by the legendary master of suspense, the film is celebrated as one of Hitchcock’s most haunting and artistic works, blending mystery, sensuality, and psychological tension into a true cinematic classic.
