Guide to a global Broadway and West End theater operator
Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) is one of the world’s largest theater operators, founded in London’s renowned West End. The company manages dozens of venues worldwide, including major theaters in both the West End and on Broadway.
Ambassador Theatre Group also runs its own ticketing services, produces plays and musicals in the U.K. and the U.S., and presents touring productions across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
The West End is London’s premier entertainment district. Like Broadway in New York, it is one of the world’s leading centers for theater, filled with historic playhouses, cinemas, restaurants, hotels, and attractions.
Broadway rose to fame in the mid-20th century with movie musicals and is known for energetic, dance-driven productions. Since the 1990s, blockbuster titles like “Aladdin” and “The Lion King” have made Broadway especially popular with families.
Ambassador Theatre Group was founded in 1992 by Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire.During the 2000s, Ambassador Theatre Group acquired multiple West End venues, becoming one of the district’s largest theater groups. In 2009, the company made a landmark purchase of 16 venues and live-event sites from Live Nation UK, securing its position as a dominant force in British theater.
Founders Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire were repeatedly listed among the most influential figures in U.K. theater, topping The Stage 100 rankings from 2010 through 2016.
In 2012, ATG announced international expansion with a new office in Sydney. The following year, the company acquired New York’s former Foxwoods Theatre, marking its debut on Broadway. In September 2015, Ambassador Theatre Group acquired ACE Theatrical Group, adding several U.S. venues, including the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, which had reopened earlier that year after a $95 million restoration. Later that year, ATG secured long-term rights to operate the Hudson Theatre in Times Square. Originally opened in 1903, the Hudson underwent major renovation and officially returned to Broadway in February 2017.

The Hudson Theatre first opened in 1903. After extensive restoration, it was officially welcomed back to Broadway in 2017 and is now recognized as one of the oldest surviving Broadway theater buildings.ATG’s activities extend far beyond venue management, covering ticketing, productions, and more.
